    Tags: hello blog, thank you

It’s always fun to look back at your posts from a year or two ago. I love seeing what I was doing, what I liked, my thoughts at the time, and who I was. It’s the closest thing to going back in time…and sometimes when you’re lucky, little bits and pieces… of where you were, who you were with, and what happened in your life at the time of your post…gradually trickle into your consciousness, and into your present.

While looking at one of my old posts, the pictures somehow provoke memories of my senior year in college, my room, and my roommates.. It’s pretty amazing how time is constant and doesn’t stop for anyone. Though it’s saddening to say our goodbyes with our past and the people who made up our memories, its also inspiring to remember that we still have decades ahead of us for us to shape. If we choose, we can keep the memories alive not only through our memory, but by keeping in touch with the people who made them that way. If we don’t, I believe that part of our youth dies with us, as we lose contact with the special people who shaped us into the ways we are.

I’m only getting older, but I’m thankful for my blog acting as a diary of sorts to bring me back to the past when I long for a taste of my youth. In here are the tiniest of thoughts that I can never recall no matter how hard I try.

I’ve posted for 3 years already, here’s to many more years to come.

    The WAVE

    The Wave, Coyote Buttes

So after stumbling upon this picture on the Yahoo! News main page, I decided to do a little more research on the stunning sandstone rock formation, known as The Wave.

LOCATION: Coyote Buttes slopes in Arizona (near Utah border), US

WHY IS IT SO UNKNOWN? Only 20 permits are granted into the area each day (10 via day lottery, 10 from advance online bookings), making it a largely restricted area. Also, given the 3+ mile, moderately difficult hike in the desert to the area, I’m assuming it’s only accessible to the physically fit. There is no formal trail, so hikers rely on their GPS (latitude-longitude: 36° 59′ 45.84″ N, 112° 0′ 21.9″ W). The weather conditions also sound extremely harsh given that temperatures in the area reach 100+ degrees F with little shade around!

HOW IS IT FORMED? Sandstone eroded from water runoff and rhythmic cycling of winds and airflow. Interesting because archeologists have mentioned traces of dinosaur trails and fossils in the area. Not surprised given the age of The Wave, which is estimated to be around 190 million years old.

    Colors of The Wave

Part of what make The Wave so unique are the various colors that appear as the time of day changes. The rock usually appears bright red-orange brown in the day and transforms into magenta blues and reds as night falls and shadows appear. Sounds so stunning! Im adding this on my bucket list, but also a bit concerned to visit given the trail-less hike. I certainly don’t want to pull a 127 hours and end up lost and trapped underneath a boulder!
Has anyone ever been and care to share their experience?

Newly adding to my Travel bucket list: Salar de Uyuni (Bolivia), Patagonia, Machu Pichu (Peru), Los Glaciares National Park (Argentina)…

Only recently, after some research, did I discover that South America is full of hidden natural wonders. Its gems are not yet widely explored amongst tourists, who seem to flock to Europe or Asia. Hope I’ll be able to visit these sights before I’m 30!

    Happy new year!

12 day trip to Norway in December turned out to be magical. Despite the harsh 0 degree C weather, the scenery was breathtaking everywhere we looked. In a nutshell, we witnessed the Northern Lights three nights in row, crossed the Arctic Circle, went husky sledding, visited a snow hotel & ice bar in the far North, ate the best seafood of my life, sailed along 30+ ports along the Norwegian coast, and disembarked at the largest cities to explore! It was a winter wonderland throughout the entire journey, and I highly recommend the Bergen-Kirkenes route to anyone who’s contemplating exploring Norway in Western Europe/Scandinavia.

Next up: Mediterranean & Eastern Europe in May, Orlando/Bahamas in Nov/Dec. Can’t wait for what 2012 will bring! Hope all readers have a fantastic start to the new year, and that 2012 brings not only health, happiness, and fresh new experiences, but safe happy travels for all!

    See you soon.
